Shop 'Til You Drop!

Montreal’s downtown is physically and literally the heart of the city; mid-way between the Plateau and Old Montreal, its proximity to every major neighbourhood contributes to  the city's easy  walkablility. Simplissimmo’s well-placed downtown properties offer the ideal platform for juggling sight-seeing and shopping in Montreal’s retail centre. From virtually anywhere downtown, you can easily access the vast network of trendy boutiques and one-of-a-kind shops known globally as the “underground city.” A blessing in wintertime, when temperatures dip below the civilized, the underground network allows you to traverse all of downtown without setting foot outside!

In warmer months, St. Catherine Street is the road to take, where between Bishop to the west and Bleury to the east, there are innumerable shops to browse, sights to see and terraces to stop at for a bite and beverage. A few blocks north, running parallel to St. Catherine Street is Sherbrooke, where a more refined experience of museums, art galleries and select jewellers line the southern boundary of Montreal’s historically wealthiest area, the “Golden Square Mile.”

The Golden Square Mile

The Golden Square Mile is where at one time over 70% of Canada’s wealth was contained within the estates of the handful of families living here.

This is where you will find the famed Ritz Carlton Hotel as well as some of the city’s grandest mansions, many of which are now part of the McGill University campus. Sprawled behind its gates at the top of McGill College Avenue, this Ivy-League campus is surrounded by the “McGill Ghetto,” a charming, tree-lined area of townhomes and apartment buildings once inhabited by local businessmen and their families, now primarily the student body stomping grounds.
