Downtown Montreal Nighlife
One cannot speak to Montreal’s nightlife without referring to one if its longest standing hot spots – the infamous, irreplaceable and irresistible Crescent Street. Starting at Sherbrooke Street by the Museum of Fine Arts and ending at René-Levesque near the Bell Centre, this three-block strip is a favourite among tourists and locals alike for its diversity, energy and guaranteed good time. Aside from the innumerable bars and nightclubs, from the classic Winnie’s – a staple since 1967 – to Jacques Villeneuve’s more recent contribution of Newtown, Crescent boasts an impressive roster of excellent restaurants, cosy pubs, sunny terraces and designer boutiques.
Though Crescent Street never really sleeps, it comes especially alive in summer, with weekend events like the Formula 1 and open-air concerts. With its many live venues featuring everything from raw comedy to rowdy Celtic bands, there’s always something happening on Crescent. This central downtown location is perfect for people who love being in the heart of the action – the Bell Centre, home of the Canadians, is a stroll away, as is Place des Arts and the Jazz Festival District.
